Students and recent alumni who have studied abroad in any format – semester, summer, year-long, student teaching, or short-term/faculty-led – and students who are planning to study abroad in the near future are invited to participate in this day-long, student-centered event.

Kari Lantos, who oversees grassroots advocacy at NAFSA: Association of International Educators, will speak during lunch about how students can maintain their involvement in international education in their communities after graduation.

The conference will feature a variety of panel discussions and presentations on the following topics;

  • Cultural Adjustment and Re-Adjustment
  • Maintaining Your International Engagement – On Campus, In Your Communities, Overseas
  • Career Development (including resume review and mock interviews)
  • Graduate School Abroad (master’s and doctoral programs abroad, scholarships)
  • Work, Internships, Volunteering, and Service Programs Abroad – going beyond “study” abroad
  • Student Poster Session and Opportunities Fair
  • Photo and Video Contest

These sessions have been designed to help students gain insight into their overseas adventures, learn how study abroad may be incorporated into career planning and graduate school applications, and understand how they can continue to keep the “international” as part of their daily lives after they graduate.  This year we are introducing opportunities for students and alumni to share posters outlining their research, their internships, their service programs, and their academic and non-academic travel adventures.  Students planning to study abroad in the summer and the next academic year may also learn something at the conference to help them plan for their upcoming international experience.  (A number of study abroad programs will be exhibiting their programs at the Opportunities Fair.) Finally, we will have an opportunities fair featuring organizations who would like to have students involved in their work (e.g. the Peace Corps).  Last year’s conference website provides information about what took place in February 2012.
