Come with us and bring literature to life! Come and live in a castle!

DIGITAL CAMERADuring this 3-week study abroad class on “Literary Landscapes,” we will first study Hilary Mantel’s novel (Bring Up the Bodies) about Tudor England and venture to London to walk in the footsteps of Anne Boleyn—ranging from her birthplace of Hever Castle to her site of beheading in the infamous Tower. Our course will next examine the letters of Mary and Percy Shelley as they traveled through Europe, and we will follow their trail all the way to Paris.  Ultimately, we will study Mary Shelley’s classic novel, Frankenstein, and then journey to Switzerland—to the same villa where she wrote the novel during a stormy week’s stay on Lake Geneva.  We will also study Lord Byron’s poetry, particularly those poems he wrote about Swiss literary sites.

Our 2013 Harlaxton students created a video that shows you exactly what you can expect next summer – take a look!
