Congratulations on your acceptance to your study abroad programs in the summer, the fall, or the entire 2012-2013 academic year! We are looking forward to hearing about your achievements and your adventures abroad.
We will be introducing a new opportunity for you to earn credit while you are overseas – we will be offering IDS 111 – Experiencing Education Abroad – to students on approved study abroad programs. This course will be a reflective journaling exercise: after determining your goals for study abroad in the pre-departure period, we will walk you through a reflection of your experiences abroad, have you do a mid-term assessment of your progress, and assign a final paper where you attempt to tie your new knowledge together just before you return home.
This course will feature 0.25 units/1 credit, and it will be graded pass/no pass. It will appear on your transcript.
Another feature – students will have the option to write a reflective paper, create a PowerPoint or a video, or make a poster presentation of their experience for sharing at our new re-entry conference at the beginning of the semester when you return to campus. The best entries will be asked to present at the NJ Re-Entry Conference that takes place in February 2013. You can get a line on your resume for grad school apps as well as the job search!
