TCNJ Short-Term Faculty-Led Programs
The College of New Jersey’s Arlotto Family Center for Global Engagement facilitates the development of short-term, faculty-led study abroad programs that complement the campus curriculum and meet the strategic objectives of the College and encourage global learning. Education abroad is often a milestone in a student’s college career, and TCNJ relies on the participation of faculty to add cultural depth and meaning to the academic experience for students. TCNJ Short-Term Faculty-Led Programs are administered by the Center for Global Engagement in partnership with faculty, schools and departments, program providers, and/or host universities abroad. Short-term programs may be free-standing courses that make a formal term (e.g. Winter or Summer Sessions) or off-campus trips that are embedded into Fall or Spring semester courses that meet on campus the rest of the semester.
Following consultation with the Global Engagement Council, The Arlotto Family Center for Global Engagement is pleased to provide information about leading a TCNJ Short-Term Faculty-Led Program:
1) Request to Schedule (RTS): Short-Term Faculty-Led Study Abroad 2026
This request is designed for those programs that have already gone through the development process and have been offered in the past. The RTS should be used when programs meet the following criteria:
- Academic content for the course(s) has/have already been reviewed by the relevant curriculum committee(s)
- The itinerary has been created in collaboration with CGE staff and a cooperating institution or organization
- The program has been previously reviewed by both the Global Engagement Council and the Global Risk Review and Crisis Management team
The RTS application asks program leaders to update any changes in leaders, dates, in-country locations, activities, and learning goals. The application also notes a cap in the number of programs that will be scheduled in 2026 and asks seasoned faculty leaders to consider inviting colleagues who are new to TCNJ’s education abroad programs to join them in offering their programs. Please note the following deadlines and changes in submission procedures:
FOR WINTER SESSION OR SPRING 2026
- APPLICATION REQUEST DEADLINE: JANUARY 31, 2025 Open a Case
- APPLICATION SUBMISSION DEADLINE VIA FACULTY PROCESS: FEBRUARY 7, 2025
FOR SUMMER SESSIONS I, II, III, OR FALL 2026
- APPLICATION REQUEST DEADLINE: MARCH 7, 2025 Open a Case
- APPLICATION SUBMISSION DEADLINE VIA FACULTY PROCESS: MARCH 14, 2025
2) Request for Proposal (RFP): NEW Short-Term Faculty-Led Study Abroad 2026
This request is designed for new programs and is the first step of the process. As the timeframe for successfully conceptualizing, developing, receiving approval, scheduling, recruiting for, and delivering a new program is about 16 months, program leaders interested in offering a new program for Spring 2026 would need to be conceptualizing the program now and submitting the proposal by December 13, 2024.
Those faculty and staff who have ideas about new programs they would like to offer in 2026 or at a later time are welcome to consult with the CGE staff. Please note the following deadlines and changes in submission procedures:
FOR NEW PROGRAMS FOR WINTER SESSION OR SPRING 2026
- APPLICATION REQUEST DEADLINE: NOVEMBER 15, 2024 Open a Case
- APPLICATION SUBMISSION DEADLINE VIA FACULTY PROCESS: DECEMBER 13, 2024
FOR NEW PROGRAMS FOR SUMMER SESSIONS OR FALL 2026
- APPLICATION REQUEST DEADLINE: FEBRUARY 7, 2025 Open a Case
- APPLICATION SUBMISSION DEADLINE VIA FACULTY PROCESS: FEBRUARY 28, 2025
